Middle-Earth reunion: McKellen, Serkis sign on for The Hobbit!

Amazing what happens once a movie actually starts getting filmed, isn't it?

This time three months ago, The Hobbit seemed as doomed as Spider-Man: Turn off the Dark, only more so.  Like, between the directorial shufflings, financial woes and labor disputes, for the better part of 2010 it looked like this thing was just never gonna happen.

Now the film is moving full steam ahead and gathering momentum at remarkable speed.  Following last week's news that Elijah Wood wil be reprising his role as Frodo, now come reports via Twitter from the-hobbitmovie.com that Ian McKellen will return as Gandalf, and Andy "Precccciouss" Serkis will be back as Gollum!

Poll: The Cape series premiere

So another superhero drama debuted last night - NBC's "The Cape", which premiered with a very long two hours that, based on the promotional footage I'd seen in advance, I did not hold out high hopes for - and I'm sorry to say it lived down to my worst expectations.

But you know, these things are subjective.  You may feel differently.

So, what's the verdict?  Was The Cape the longest two hours of your life, a roller-coaster ride of chocolate-covered awesome sex cake, or did it have no impact on your life whatsoever?

Or, ya know - "other". Speak up, and let your voice be heard!   By which I mean, vote in the poll below.

Tuesday is the new Wednesday — for comic retailers, at least

via Robot 6 @ Comic Book Resources

This week marks the beginning of an improvement in the way comics primary distributor, Diamond, distributes its comics to its customers — direct market retailers, aka ‘comic stores’. Up until this week, comics were delivered to comic stores on the intended day of release: basically, the sooner you could get them out of the shipping boxes and onto shelves, you could start selling. Now, retailers have the option to get their books a day early, as a way of easing the brutal turnaround time expected for Wednesday on-sale dates.

The Lord of the Sith watches you work

As a work-at-home writer, the temptation to slack off can be hard to fight, but it helps knowing I've got Darth Vader watching me, and if he isn't happy with my progress he can choke the life out of me.

With his mind.

Plus, he's all kinds of cute with his little bobble-head.

The Darth Vader Star Wars Computer Sitter comes with a little sticky pad to help him stay put on your monitor. He's fun, cute, he livens up your desktop and by god he motivates you to fix that hole in the Death Star!

The Cape: First impressions

Well, based on all of the preview footage, and the clip I saw this week on the iPad DC Comics app - let's just say I hope they have a terrible promotional producer.

Because it looks bloody awful.

Summer Glau, who I have loved dearly since I first saw her as a ballerina in Angel season three, is beginning to resemble a very sexy Nicolas Cage, a fireball of talent with a penchant towards  comics action roles and an almost pathological inability to turn down a job.

I could very well be wrong. I certainly hope so.  The Cape debuts tonight at 9:00 p.m. on NBC, and if my initial impressions - and that of the Washington Post - are wrong, I will certainly sit through the two-hour premiere episode happily.

If not, well - TiVo is my real superhero.
