Talks of a remake of 'The Toxic Avenger' started gaining ground earlier this Spring when Original Media, a production shingle run by Charlie Corwin, Richard Saperstein and Akiva Goldsman, acquired the rights to Troma Films' most iconic character. Now it's back in the news thanks to Deadline revealing that 'Hot Tube Time Machine' director Steve Pink will be the one bossing around the mop-wielding crusader on set.

Boondocks Season 3 DVD gets release date

At long last - according to Amazon.com, at least - we have a release date for the highly-anticipated DVD release of The Boondocks: The Complete Third Season.

Drumroll... November 9!  Just 6 days from now.

Assuming Amazon is correct.  They've estimated the date on this one once or twice, and subsequently postponed it - they could have been getting their information from the distributor, who isn't in direct communication with Adult Swim, or Aaron McGruder might be throwing in last-minute extras - these things are beyond my knowledge and control.

However, it seems very unlikely that they would finally post a release date, less than a week from today, without a great deal of confidence in its accuracy.

And Tuesdays are "new DVD release days" after all. And Wednesday is new comics, and Thursday we try and explain why we can't afford this month's rent.

Anyway, I pre-ordered back in June and I've just received an e-mail telling me to expect my DVD by November 12.  You can place your order for the excellent third - and in all likelihood, final - season of the Boondocks on DVD here.

‘With Great Power: The Stan Lee Story’ screens Sunday in Santa Monica

via Hero Complex - Los Angeles Times

Once you get past the superheroes and super-villains, Stan Lee is the most famous name in comic books.

For the general public, especially people over 35, if you ask them to name a comic-book creator, the most common answer by far will be Lee — and many of those respondents will be shocked if you inform them that the Marvel Comics standard-bearer made his mark as writer and editor, not as an artist. Lee, still a dynamo at age 87, has been a figure of fascination and controversy through the decades and that’s why there is considerable potential in a project such as “With Great Power: The Stan Lee Story,” the new documentary about the co-creator of Spider-Man, the Fantastic Four, the X-Men, Thor and Iron Man.

The next Batman villain: 5 theories

It's not the Riddler, says Christopher Nolan of the antagonist in his second Batman sequel, tentatively titled "The Dark Knight Rises." Who will it be then?

Michelle Pfeiffer played Catwoman in Tim Burton's 'Batman Returns.' Some early casting calls have fans wondering if Chris Nolan will resurrect the cat suit. Photo: Screen shot
Best Opinion:  Escapist, Slash Film, HecklerSpray...
Christopher Nolan, the famously secretive director of The Dark Knight, has finally given fans a few scraps of information about the next movie in his Batman series. The film will be titled The Dark Knight Rises, and will be released in the summer of 2012. Nolan isn't offering any details on the plot, although he did tell the Los Angeles Times that the film's villain would not be the Riddler, the character played by Frank Gorshin in the campy 1960s TV series. He had already ruled out Mr. Freeze and the Penguin. So which of Batman's many nemeses will the director choose? Here are five theories:
Catwoman
Earlier this week, rumors were swirling that Nolan was auditioning actresses for a lead role in the movie. Speculation swiftly followed that Batman's rival this time might be Catwoman, the villain memorably played by Michelle Pfeiffer in Tim Burton's Batman Returns. "It's incredibly thin grounds to base a rumor on," says Logan Westbrook at Escapist, but "it's not hard to see how Catwoman might fit into the movie." A sexy criminal might seem "awfully appealing" to the Batman left alone at the end of The Dark Knight
Killer Croc
Another rumor goes that Nolan will film The Dark Knight Rises in Louisiana early next year. The conventional wisdom says that's because of the state's generous tax breaks, but it could be because "a Killer Croc might be at home in Louisiana swamps," says Russ Fischer at Slash Film. The character — a deformed wrestler with "crocodilian abilities" — has never appeared in the Batman movies, but is a favorite of comic book fans. I don't think so, says Mof Gimmers at HecklerSpray. Mainly because Killer Croc is a horrible name for a villain.
Two-Face (again)
Two-Face, aka Harvey Dent, the badly-burned district attorney played by Aaron Eckhart in The Dark Knight, could be resurrected for the sequel, says Josh Wigler at MTV.com. The "rises" in the title could refer to Dent's return from the grave. It would need to be done "tastefully and respectfully," of course, but Eckhart has "expressed a willingness to return." I don't know, says Geoff Boucher at the Los Angeles Times. "Dent was plainly dead at the end of the last film," and Nolan doesn't go in for "super-science."

The Walking Dead Is AMC’s Highest-Rated Show Ever

via Vulture

Don Draper: The Undead Years? Probably not going to happen, but maybe it should. Ratings are in for Sunday's debut of AMC's new zombie drama The Walking Dead, and they were, well, monstrous. Nielsen says 5.3 million people watched the 90-minute bow at 10 p.m. on Halloween, giving AMC its biggest audience ever for an original series, and far surpassing the numbers for network staples such as Mad Men and Breaking Bad. (The network's all-time draw remains the mini-series Broken Trail, which premiered to nearly 10 million viewers back in 2006.) Add in same-night repeats of Dead, and the show's premiere audience rises to just over 8 million viewers. What's more, Dead was particularly big with viewers under 50: Around 3.6 million in that demo watched, making the show the biggest cable-series premiere among the young folks this year
