NOT Coming Soon To Smallville - Ghettoman!
Posted by Matt in Hawkman, Justice Society, SmallvilleSmallville fans are all agog at the news that a whole mess of DCU characters including Hawkman, Sandman and Stargirl are going to be paying a visit to the surprisingly eventful and cosmopolitan Kansas farm town in the near future.
Ooh.. agog. If this show makes it to season ten, how cool would it be if Magog was the Big Bad? As long as he wasn’t played by some douchey soap opera star - and as long as his costume isn’t designed by whoever decided to make Hawkman look like a patron at an S&M bar. Cause let’s face it, Magog is already pushing the envelope pretty far in that department.
I’m very excited to see the Justice Society coming to Smallville, even though it completely takes any pretense of continuity - not just with the comics universe, but with Smallville’s own previous eight seasons - and flushes it down the toilet.
Continuity is a burden. Just accept the fact that Wolverine is in Madripoor, Germany, Russia, New York, Thunderbolts Mountain and on the Moon at the same time. How is it possible? Because it’s f**kin’ escapist fiction, that’s how.
But I digress.
I’m all for bringing as many superheroes to screens big and small, as long as its done well. And I applaud Smallville’s producers for having the good taste to not feature Ghettoman, the unbelievably offensive “hero” who was a part of the action the last time this many DCU heroes were together for a live-action program: the so-bad-its-great “Legends of the Superheroes”.
