Make Your Own 'Mystique' Halloween Costume

The Mystique look is not an easy one to pull off, but if you can make it work - well, you win at Halloween. This classic X-Men villain who has been a huge presence in both the comics and the films, including X-Men: First Class, is beautiful and complicated on the inside and out. And this video tutorial walks you through the steps of putting together your own Mystique costume. Good luck - and if you end up trying it, please send me pics and I'll be happy to post them on Comics Cavern!

Batman Costume Contest

It's the costume contest that Gotham deserves! My pals at HalloweenCostumes.com, who gave away a Captain America costume and shield a couple of months ago, are back. And this time, they're giving away a Batman costume to one Comics Cavern reader.

Or Batgirl, or Robin.

Or, you know - the Joker, Harley Quinn, etc. - because we don't discriminate against the criminally insane.

Check out HalloweenCostumes.com's Batman page, and you'll find something for everyone, from adorable little Bat-toddlers to terrifying Jokers. Also, some sexy Robin girls.

To enter, leave a comment below. The rules are the same as the Cap contest, namely you have a choice between telling me:

1) Telling me your all-time favorite Batman run or story in any media, and why. Be it Gail Simone's Batgirl, Frank Miller's Dark Knight Returns, the Batman Beyond animated series, Batman & Robin, whatever; or

2) What Batman means to you.

The fine print is as follows: you've got to be a U.S. resident, and whichever costume you choose has to be $60.00 or under. Please allow 4-8 business days for shipping. Contest ends Monday, October 17.

Good Luck!

Gen 13's Caitlin Fairchild IRL [NSFW]

Gotta love it when inspiration strikes. From deviantARTist theirison:

I was in the middle of a shoot and I noticed that my model looked kinda like Caitlin Fairchild from Gen 13

I stopped the shoot and immediately ran to Walmart to find some sort of a costume that looked like Caitlins

with a bit of manipulation to the outfit, I created a Campbell girl!!!!
I'm pretty sure this was one of my life goals, haha

Wow, do I miss Wildstorm. Fortunately, it seems we'll be seeing a lot more of Caitlin Fairchild in the comics, as she will apparently be featured in DC's relaunched Superboy ongoing series.

Sexy Batgirl Cosplayer

For a lot of fans, Stephanie Brown is the definitive Batgirl, and she's certainly a character who a lot of fans love and identify with, despite - or maybe because of - the short shrift she's received so often from those who didn't appreciate her, from Tim Drake to Dan DiDio

It may be quite a while before she pops up in the new DCU, but she'll live forever as long as there are back issues and cosplayers like AiTenshiMisha, who is rocking the Stephanie Brown Batgirl look in these pics.

Make Your Own Red Hood Helmet

From Jack Napier to Jason Todd, the Red Hood has a rich comic history - and a fetching crimson helmet.

If you're feeling crafts-y and want to make a Red Hood helmet of your own, you're in luck. There are step-by-step instructions available at Me And My Monkey. Now if someone could just give me instructions for a Starfire two-piece for my ladyfriend, I'd be all set!

JLE (Justice League of Estrogen) Strikes Again!

I approve of this on so many levels. The beautiful reverse-gender Justice League, who you might remember from when they rocked WonderCon, are back with more sizzliing pics from SDCC. Even as DC Editorial is scaling back on female characters (not to mention creators), its comforting to know we've got real-life heroines, patrolling the cons and keeping the world safe and awesome.
