In the wake of the premiere of Ghost Rider: Spirit of Vengeance, Sony is emerging with a clip from The Amazing Spider-Man, which looks much, much better. Although there's no high flying, web-slingy fun here, just a doorman having fun with post-9/11 security powers and Peter Parker totally not getting it. Will he make it to dinner with Gwendy? Stay tuned!

Matt Sager OK, it's gotten to the point that Marvel can just release any old still of two characters doing nothing in The Avengers, and I squee. Case in point, here's a pic of Chris Hemsworth as Thor and Clark Gregg as Agent Coulson, possibly deciding how hard they're going to kick Loki's ass, possibly bidding on obscure parts for the Heilcarrier. Either way, Im' psyched.

It couldn't have happened to a nicer movie. From the nastiness of the Gary Friedrich case to the unpleasant and unprofessional treatment this and many other websites received from a bumbling SOPA loving promotional firm in the run-up to the premiere, Ghost Rider: Spirit of Vengeance had a lot of baggage. That, and it's a sequel to one of the most universally loathed, creatively bankrupt comic book movies in history. For me personally, it was the longest 90 minutes I've spent at the movies in a long, long time. It's a long-running joke that Nicolas Cage runs the gamut between great and terrible in his performances and in the projects he chooses. With Ghost Rider, he's two for two. Comics and comics fans deserve better.
Let's see what the critics, who as of this writing have SoV at 16% on Rotten Tomatoes, have to say:
"This is a movie about a flaming skeleton that rides a motorcycle -- there's no excuse for it to be this dull." - The Wrap
"Crank directors Mark Neveldine and Brian Taylor bring nothing of note to this hackneyed follow-up to the money-raking original. "- Radio Times
"… less a film than a tattoo that lasts 90 minute" - Empire
"Even the effects are likely to leave you cold: turns out, a flaming skull is only scary the first time around." - New York Daily News

At first glance it looks like a carbon copy of the excellent recent trailer we've seen in the U.S. for The Amazing Spider-Man, but this Belgian import includes some new footage. In particular, we see some of the conflict between Peter and Captain Stacy, over the preposterous notion that Spider-Man and the NYPD have anything in common. I mean, the very idea that uniformed policemen could run around, spraying people with some wacky substance willy nilly! In this day and age! That's just… yeah. Anyway, the trailer, and the film, continue to look pretty awesome.

Matt Sager Sony has released this new promotional image for The Amazing Spider-Man. Other than a close-up of the costume, there's not a lot to see here, though the way Spidey's hands and feet fade into the background is interesting. Wonder if we're seeing a chameleon effect like that exhibited by Miles Morales, or if that's just fun with Photoshop. Thoughts?

The long awaited follow-up to X-Men Origins: Wolverine has a release date. The Wolverine will open in theaters July 23, 203, opposite Lionsgate's Dirty Dancing remake and Disney's Phineas and Ferb movie. Tom Cruise's sci-fi flick, currently untitled but formerly known as Horizons and Oblivion, will open the week before, and assuming it has a title and a plot to speak of, it stands as the only movie that might give Wolvie a run for his money at the box office.
Hugh Jackman is returning as Wolverine for the movie, which will be set in Japan and is set to be directed by James Mangold.
